Who We Are

Bold Belonging includes women and men who are learning about gender equity because we want to create workplaces where everyone can flourish.

Many of us work in Christian organizations. Some of us are on a journey of healing from toxic leadership. Others are becoming aware of limiting biases and behaviors we have the opportunity to change.

Bold Belonging is where we find ways to move forward together with courage and wisdom.

Questions

  • Our conversations about gender often focus on differing interpretations of the Bible related to the church and the home. These conversations largely ignore the experiences of women and men in the workplace.

Yet it is widely acknowledged that many workplaces suffer from a lack of gender equity. Unless we address the inequity, we resign ourselves to the reality that if one part of the body suffers, every part suffers with it (1 Cor. 12:26).

  • A Christian perspective of gender equity rests on the belief that every person is created in the image of God. So, every person is worthy of love and belonging.

In the biblical story of creation, Adam and Eve represent the collaborative equality of men and women—a revolutionary idea in the ancient world. Jesus advanced this idea in the way he included and elevated women.

The arc of the biblical narrative stands in contrast to gender stereotypes, biases, and privileges that create unfair expectations and unequal access to opportunities. We struggle to experience the belonging and balance God designed. Our advocacy for gender equity recognizes this struggle and seeks to restore equality.

  • Day six of the creation story in Genesis reveals the divine intention for women and men to flourish in collaboration.

Gender equity work reveals the conscious and unconscious tendencies that limit our intended flourishing. For example, stereotypes can be unfair to both women and men. By addressing the barriers to gender equity, we can more fully support everyone’s God-given uniqueness and well-being.
